Yesterday’s Commission meeting included several special resolutions honoring service, legacy, and achievement across Caddo Parish.
We began with a remembrance for the service members who have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict with Iran. With candlelight and the presentation of yellow roses to local veterans, the Commission honored each fallen service member individually to acknowledge their sacrifice. We thank these individuals, their families and all members of the Armed Forces that put so much on the line every day.
The Commission also recognized the life and legacy of Demetrick Lavell Alexander-Metcalf, affectionately known as “Poohly,” proclaiming March 18 as “Prolific Pooh Day” in his honor.
Respected community leader, Mr. Green Whitaker, Sr., was honored in celebration of his 100th birthday, recognizing a century of faith, perseverance, and service to the Caddo Parish community.
The Youree Drive Middle School football team was celebrated for back-to-back undefeated seasons and earning the title of 2025 City Champions, an accomplishment that reflects athletic excellence, discipline and strong character.
The commissioners also voted to adopt a resolution urging the Louisiana Legislature to enact a statewide domestic violence registry in support of the work of Petrina Jenkins, a domestic violence advocate whose legacy lives on through the non-profit organization Petrina’s Purple Passion. ...
