Victor L. Thomas is a community organizer, veteran, and native of Shreveport, La. He currently serves as the Online/Distance Learning Coordinator at Southern University at Shreveport and is a member of the Shreveport Commission on Race & Cultural Diversity. Mr. Thomas has been a Master Stylist for 15 years. He has a passion for educating new industry professionals and has served as a Cosmetology Instructor and the Cosmetology Program Chair for Blue Cliff Colleges and lends his creativity and attention to detail to local arts, stage, and film projects. Victor’s passion for others and his city, is best exemplified by his dedicated work with numerous governmental and community organizations and boards such as the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals Initiative, Shreveport NAACP, the Red River Revel Revel, the Highland Jazz & Blues Festival, Community Foundation of Northwest LA, South Shreveport Voters League, Lakeside Allendale Leadbetter Heights Partnership, Cedar Grove C.A.R.E, and the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Thomas was recognized as a member of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce 2021 40 Under Forty class. As the Community Outreach Director for Loving Little Ones, Inc., he worked to eradicate homelessness, sheltered poverty, violence, and increasing access to STEM programming and community participation in the political and legislative process by organizing the Pop-Up Shelter at the LA State Fairgrounds. This one day resource fair provides many services and resources such as showers, meals throughout the day, and care packages, as well as health, financial, educational, dental, and mental wellness services.
Most notably, our organization provided shelter and meals during our city’s 2021 snowstorm by partnering with Little Union Baptist Church and the United Way of NWLA. Victor has a passion for advocacy and allocating, mobilizing, and effectively managing resources that help to improve the quality of life for those low-income and at-risk populations. As Caddo Parish Commissioner of District 3, Victor’s mission will be to strengthen our Neighborhood Associations and empower local nonprofits with the tools and resources they need to continue the necessary work they provide in our community. Victor hopes to foster greater collaboration between city, parish and state government for the betterment of North Louisiana.
