Caddo Parish, LA – As winter weather moves into the area, the Parish of Caddo has begun preparations parish wide.
“Our two main priorities are the safety of our citizens and continuity of operations,” said Parish Administrator and CEO, Erica Bryant. “Our parish departments prepare year-round for the threat of inclement weather, and are in the process of executing the Parish’s plans for events like these,” said Bryant.
Caddo Parish Public Works crews are currently assessing parish roads and bridges, removing any downed foliage or debris, and preparing to sand bridges that are prone to icing over. Citizens that encounter a downed tree or obstructed road/bridge should call (318)-675-2170.
Parish compactor sites will remain open, with the exception of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation will close all park restrooms starting Monday, January 15th to protect plumbing. Temporary outdoor portlets will be available at each restroom site. Water service will not be available at any Caddo Parish park picnic shelters/pavilions. Park trails at Eddie D. Jones Park will remain open, but caution is always advised for all trail users.
Caddo Parish Animal Services and Mosquito Control is partnering with local rescues and citizens to provide temporary fostering to as many animals as possible. Animals who are housed in outdoor kennels are being moved inside as temperatures drop.
Animal Control Officers will be responding to emergency calls only (bites, injured animals, and wildlife concerns).
Caddo Parish Facilities and Maintenance staff are assessing parish facilities and preparing pipes and other infrastructure for harsh temperatures. Any facilities that may close due to the weather will be updated.
“We want the citizens of Caddo Parish to know that we are being vigilant and working with Homeland Security and our other partners to stay updated and responsive during this event,” said Bryant. “We urge all of our citizens to stay updated, and to prepare.”
For more information and updates, citizens may visit caddo.org or the Parish’s official social media channels.
