CADDO PARISH COMMISSION VOTES TO RAISE LIVING WAGE TO $15.00/HR FOR PARISH CONTRACTORS

Caddo Parish, LA – The Caddo Parish Commission voted today to amend an ordinance which will now also require vendors who are contracted by the Parish of Caddo to pay employees utilized on Parish projects no less than $15.00/hr for all hours worked on Parish projects.

This amendment applies to:

·      Businesses that employ sixteen (16) or more employees

·      Contracts $25,000 or more and not required by Louisiana law to be publicly bid.

The Commission’s amendment adds to earlier legislation approved in August that changes the minimum classified pay rate to $15.00/hr for permanent Parish of Caddo employees.

“The Commission’s recent action on raising the living wage for our employees and those contracted for Parish work is part of the Commission’s ongoing commitment to improving the economic well-being of our residents,” said District 2 Commissioner Gregory Young.  “We want to ensure that taxpayer dollars support workers earning a livable wage, and this legislation marks a significant step toward greater economic equity and reflects the Parish’s determination to offer our local workforce the ultimate in fairness and opportunity,” said Young.

To date, over 140 cities and counties across the country have adopted living wage ordinances, and Caddo Parish joins Orleans Parish in the state of Louisiana.

Ordinance 6477 goes into effect January 1, 2025.
